Do you have a website that requires changes at normal intervals of time? Worried about broken links and out of date text? Website maintenance is the solution to all these problems. Website maintenance is carried out at various levels and on large as well as small scales in a website. A site may require many minor changes in terms of content, navigation links, database, etc. rather than major changes such as re-designing or refurbishing.
Usually companies invest good sum of money to build a website inserting all attractive features, but the problem that many companies face is that even after having invested a large sum of money to build a website, they are still do not have any personnel who are able to make necessary changes to the website. Even seemingly simple things like adding fresh text or photographs. A solution to this problem would be to ensure that you include a proper maintenance plan in the contract that you make with the website designer.
For such maintenance, employing an in-house designer full time would prove to be very costly and will raise your business expenses. Another option that you could keep in mind is that you could train an employee within your organization to learn to work with an html editor. There is software available like Frontpage or Dreamweaver that could be extremely useful. This way an employee will not have to work on a website from scratch but can easily carry out modifications on the existent site. This is relatively much simpler than designing the entire website.
Beware of giving the website updating work to unprofessional people as it may do more harm than benefit, leading to bad formatting, broken links, slower downloads, etc. These are duties that do not come under the domain of duties to be performed by the original website designer. For such editing and mailing you perhaps check with your designer for some economical solutions that they can provide you. If that does not work out you can outsource such activities. The most important thing is to be prepared for such maintenance issues and you can then cope with it easily.
