These days usage of mobile phones, PDAs and other mobile devices has increased a lot. People tend to use more their mobile phones for searching information as it is very convenient when they are on move. Mobile phones, PDAs and a variety of other mobile devices are now able to access the internet around the world. The internet is no longer the preserve of people with computers - it is now a mobile phenomenon.
Mobile website is corresponding in function to a usual website formed for PC viewing but is dissimilar in that equally its volume and content layout have been specifically configured to fit the small screen sizes of mobile phones and devices. Due to the increase of mobile users day by day mobile sites will dominate over regular websites one day.
Regular website content is now converted to the mobile device format content. So this content can be easily and properly viewed on smaller screens. There are some basic rules and guidelines that one should keep in mind for designing mobile pages. Thumb rule is you should have very less links on a page. Navigation should be very easy with help of 2-3 links on one page.
Mobile websites are often called WAP sites. WAP is an acronym that stands for Wireless Application Protocol. Latest mobile devices support full HTML based browsers and you can see any regular HTML website on it. But they are not visually friendly. It is not convenient to browse the site which is designed for the screen which is 20 times bigger than it.
So in spite of the fact that regular website can be viewed on the latest mobile devices, they are not good for browsing. If you re expecting serious applications and users on your mobile site, then the site has to be designed keeping the smaller screen in mind. The layout of the page, content placement should be easy to read.
