Designing an Effective Website!

A well elegant and planned website is very significant and the very success of its existence hinges on how easy the site is to navigate. Most surfers are very annoyed and if a website is confusing and hard to figure out, most of them will move on to the next site and never return again. It is quite shocking just how many websites out there actually have great content with products that people need, but the layout of the site makes it hard to figure out.

The outline for a successful website has to make sense to the average person. While there is certainly room for creativity, it is no accident that successful well-designed websites usually have similar navigation layouts. Keep in mind that in the end, it is always a great idea to get someone with very little Internet savvy to try and navigate your site after you have the basic pages laid out.

While designing your site, you must not at all forget the essential purpose of the website along with a profile of who your typical customer will be when laying out the navigational elements of the site. Websites typically have one of the two basic purposes. They either inform the visitor about a product or service or they actually try to sell the product or service.

Your first page is your index page, which introduces your product or service. From the index page, most successful sites have main pages that go into more detail about specific products and services, or perhaps describe more fully certain elements about the product or service. Most sites have anywhere from four or five main pages to 30 or more.

The links should be bolded text links that are labeled to precisely inform in 1-3 words what is on those main pages, and the links should also be in traditional blue link color. This structure will enhance your chances of getting your web pages indexed with the major search engines, which means free traffic. Link to secondary pages such as articles, can be placed either at the bottom of the page or at the bottom of your navigation bar. Both methods work fine.

Just remember that a simple well-designed web site will create a significant increase in the numbers of pages viewed by each visitor. This will no doubt increase signups, customers, sales, members or whatever it is your site is designed to do and make your website more successful.
